Today i drove up to Dayton to attend an event called Family Fun Afternoon that was put on by Dar a Luz. All kinds of information/resources/freebies relating to childbirth, breastfeeding, etc. There was a henna artist, though i didn't get any done. There was a massage therapist and i got a short free chair massage. They were showing the movie Born In The USA but it was pretty loud in there and i couldn't really hear it so i gave up trying to watch it. The event was really great but the best part for me was the raffle! i spent $14 on raffle tickets (2 $2 tickets and 2 $5 tickets -- the prizes were tiered based on their value) and i ended up winning THREE of the prizes! Three! After i purchased my tickets, i really put out to the Universe that i wanted to win the cloth diaper basket, or even better--the big cloth diaper "cake" or the postpartum basket. Time for the raffle. First i won a basket full of hair and body products. i didn't really want that but i was grateful to have won. Right after that, an old lady won the cloth diaper basket. She didn't need/want it and they were trying to figure out what to give her instead so i went up and asked if she would like to trade for the hair/body basket. She was thrilled! So i did end up getting the cloth diaper basket after all! A little while later i won a Trader Joe's Gift Bag. Then toward the end of the raffle, i won the big cloth diaper cake!! i was so thrilled!

Snow Days

Milena and i just watched Fargo. She had already seen it, at school, but i had never seen it before. Bizarre movie, that one. Can't say i really liked it. Although i didn't really dislike it, either. i guess i have mixed feelings about it.

The kids had another Snow Day today, and it's already been announced that they'll have another one tomorrow. i guess that means the PTA meeting tomorrow night will be postponed. The first-graders (which includes Evan) were supposed to perform a song called Everyone Smiles In The Same Language or something like that.

Matthew has a cold with a terrible cough. He's been up most of the night with it so far. i feel badly for him but there isn't much i can do for him.

Oh My Darling, Oh My Darling...

So i sucked it up and bought a bag of clementines at Kroger yesterday. In my quest to try new (to me) fruits and vegetables, i had been avoiding buying clementines because they are only sold in boxes and bags and i didn't want them to be wasted if nobody liked them.

Today, i tried one for the first time. i found the taste to be delicious but the texture was too much like a navel orange-- i just couldn't deal with the texture, especially the whitish part that is against the peel. It made me gag and i had to spit it out into the sink. The kids seemed to really like them though, so at least they won't go to waste.

Other fresh produce that i bought to try this week: another mango (this one looks more ripe), a tangelo, Honeycrisp apples, starfruit, kiwi, and butternut squash. Anybody got any tips on preparing the butternut squash?

My Richards Simmons DVDs arrived on Friday! i got Sweatin' To The Oldies and Disco Sweat. i used to have both of those on VHS but lost
them somewhere along the line. i'm looking forward to doing them again. i know, i'm a big dork just like Richard.

Then, yesterday, my Sigg bottle came in the mail! i can't wait to use it! Goodbye, non-eco-friendly water bottles!

It is FREEZING cold in here, probably because it is even more cold outside! Had my oral surgery yesterday. It went well but my mouth hurts and my face is swollen and bruised. Also, i have a stitch in my mouth and that is driving me crazy!

At 8:30 this morning i have an appointment with the oral surgeon. i have to have a tooth extracted, and eventually have an implant put in. i am feeling very nervous right now. i've had oral surgery before, so i don't know why i am feeling so anxious.

So we tried the acorn squash tonight. Milena was the only one who liked it. i thought the flavour was okay (with the butter and brown sugar, mind you!) but i just couldn't deal with the texture. Next!

The kids had a snow day today. What a joke. Needless to say, my nerves are a bit frazzled. It's been a pretty good day, though, overall. i made scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. The kids had sandwiches, chips, and bananas for lunch; i had a Healthy Choice entree. i took care of my student loan payment, and called in a payment to my doctor's office. i've gotten a LOT of laundry done! i did the 2-mile walk. So a pretty productive day.

i'll be starting dinner soon. Tonight we're having pork chops, garlic mashed potatoes, and we're going to try the acorn squash that i got at Kroger the other day. i'm looking forward to trying it. i think.
